The centre will operate as a nationwide hub with satellite units in all regions of Denmark and will be physically located at Bispebjerg Hospital in the Capital Region of Denmark.
The goal is to achieve breakthroughs in understanding why and how mental illness arises, and to develop new methods for early detection, prevention, and more effective treatments—for the benefit of both patients and society.
The centre brings together leading experts in psychiatry from across the country around a shared vision and research strategy, connected through strong collaborative efforts spanning all regions.
This broad collaboration will help ensure that new knowledge is rapidly disseminated and translated into practice—for the benefit of patients, relatives, and society as a whole.
To support this ambition, a board with broad national representation has been established to drive the initiative forward. Together with the executive management, the board will help shape a centre capable of making a real and lasting impact.
The board and leadership thus hold a key position in advancing clinical psychiatric research in Denmark and in realising the centre’s vision.
Board of Directors
The board holds overall responsibility for ensuring that the centre operates in line with its vision and research strategy. This includes approving strategic decisions, overseeing management and finances, and actively working to position the centre as a national and international leader in clinical psychiatric research.
Through its broad composition and collaborative approach, the board ensures that a strong national perspective is maintained, enabling the centre to act as a driving force for psychiatric research across Denmark.
The board consists of eight members representing different regions and research institutions, supplemented by a number of non-voting members, collectively ensuring strong national anchoring and professional cohesion.

Executive Management
The centre is led by an internationally recognised researcher in psychiatry and a deputy director. The director holds overall responsibility for the centre’s scientific strategy, research activities, and day-to-day management.
The director reports to the board on strategic matters and to the management of Bispebjerg Hospital regarding daily operations.
The deputy director supports the director in day-to-day management, with particular responsibility for operations, administration, and collaboration with clinical environments across the country.
Stakeholder Involvement and Governance
To strengthen the centre’s academic work and patient involvement, several bodies have been established:

a research council to support coordination, collaboration, and professional development across research projects;

an implementation council to help translate research into improved treatment within the healthcare system;

and a user panel to strengthen the patient perspective in the centre’s activities.
A governance structure has also been developed to ensure clear roles, transparent decision-making processes, and an appropriate arm’s-length relationship between the funding body and the centre’s management.
This structure is designed to support research at the highest international level and to ensure that its outcomes benefit people living with mental illness.
