Condyloma, treatment with Tolak, cream

Efudix is a cream containing a type of local chemotherapy, which targets the skin cells infected with HPV, causing them to perish.

What is Tolak®?

Tolak® is a cream containing the active compound 5-flourouracil, a type of local chemotherapy, which targets the skin cells infected with HPV, causing them to perish.

How is the treatment carried out?

Tolak is meant for home treatment. It is therefore imperative that you are able to see the genital warts yourself, and that you are able to apply the treatment where needed.

The cream is applied once daily Monday to Friday until you develop a localized skin reaction, in the form of red, crusty and uncomfortable skin. This is not a side effect, but part of the treatment process. It typically takes 1-2 weeks for the reaction to occur. If you develop a severe localized eczema and stinging wound, pause the treatment for 2-3 days. When reapplying the cream after the 2-3 days, you can choose to only apply the cream every 2nd day. We recommend contacting the clinic if this occurs.

We recommend not treating more than 10% of the skin surface in every treatment session.

After the treatment

Wash your hands after applying the treatment. You can use disposable gloves to apply the cream.

Pregnancy

Tolak cannot be used during pregnancy.
