General Hospital Building (Akuthuset)

​The new General Hospital will bring together key hospital functions – including the ​​Emergency Department, operating theatres, Intensive Care, Imaging, and new Women and Children's Departments – in a modern, patient-focused setting connected to the surrounding park.

Renovation and Restoration

​Alongside the construction of the new General Hospital Building (Akuthuset), extensive reno-vation and restoration work is being carried out in architect Martin Nyrop’s heritage-protected pavilion buildings. With great respect for the original design, the historic pavilions will be preserved as the hospital’s heritage quarter.

The New Education Centre – “Fælleshuset”

​The new Education Centre at Bispebjerg Hospital — known as Fælleshuset — is a modern hub for learning, collaboration, and community. It brings together clinical practice, research, and education, offering inspiring spaces for training, meetings, and professional development across disciplines.

Built in reused red bricks and designed with strong sustainability principles, the building blends harmoniously with the historic hospital architecture while reducing environmental impact dur-ing construction.

Bispebjerg’s Healing Gardens (Helende Haver)

​​The historic, protected patient gardens at Bispebjerg Hospital have been beautifully restored as healing oases — just as originally envisioned in 1913 by landscape architect Edward Glæsel. The gardens were named Copenhagen’s Best Urban Space in 2022.

Patients, visitors, and staff can now enjoy flowering magnolia trees, peaceful spaces for re-flection, and accessible paths that allow even bedridden patients to experience nature. The renovation strengthens biodiversity and resilience while restoring many of the gardens’ original plant varieties.

Laboratory and Logistics Building

​​​​​The Laboratory and Logistics Building provides state-of-the-art facilities for research, analysis, and hospital logistics. It brings together laboratories, storage and logistics areas, and shared research spaces to support efficient operations and scientific collaboration.

Technical Building

​​The Technical Building houses Denmark’s largest ATES (Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage) system for underground energy ​​​storage. It also accommodates the hospital’s new emergency power generators.

Car Park

​​The first completed project in the hospital expansion is the new multi-storey parking facility, located in the northwestern corner of the site facing Tuborgvej. Opened in November 2015, the building provides convenient access for patients, visitors, and staff.
